Sophie Turner injury during Tomb Raider filming halts production

Actor Sophie Turner has apparently suffered an injury during the filming of Amazon’s Tomb Raider TV series and production has been halted while she recovers.

Yahoo News heard from a spokesperson for the show that the injury was “minor” and Turner would be out for a couple of weeks. “We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible,” a spokesperson said.

However, the Sun, a source Yahoo News references, told a more dramatic tale, saying cast and crew have been put on hiatus for a month and that it could be as many as six months before Turner recovers. “It’s been chaos on set and now the whole show is in jeopardy,” a source said. “Many on set fear Sophie may have to be replaced altogether now, as she may not bounce back in time.”

Turner’s pre-existing back condition, apparently discovered last year while training for the role of Lara Croft, appears to be the problem. Long days and a physically demanding role have combined to damage it. Previously shared images from the Tomb Raider set show Turner performing some of her own stunts, such as parachuting (while connected to wires).

Exactly where the truth lies, we’ll have to wait and see. Turner hasn’t offered any clarification or made any announcements through her social media accounts, from what I can see.

Fleabag and Killing Eve’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge has created the Tomb Raider show for Amazon, and high-profile actors confirmed for the show include Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis and Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle Atlas. Filming began in January but no release date has been announced.
