Tekken 8 is adding Bob to its roster and players seem pretty hyped, despite the fighting game’s mounting struggles

It’s no secret Tekken 8 has been in a tight spot for a good while, despite its strong debut in early 2024. High-profile departures of key staff like Tekken legend Katsuhiro Harada and game director Kohei Ikeda have deepened woes about the game and larger series’ future after middling to outright terrible seasonal updates. New characters and patches are on their way, however – and it seems that Bob’s long-awaited arrival later this summer could be a major win.

At least, those are the vibes we’re getting from comments on the game’s latest trailer – released during this past weekend’s Evo 2026 event – which praise his new moves and the fact he’s seen tanking Kazuya’s Heihachi-demolishing punch with his belly. The gameplay trailer also confirms a 19th August release date.

“Powerscaling people are gonna go crazy with the fact Bob tanked Kazuya with his belly,” one user pointed out about one of the fight intro animations seen in one of the clips. It must be noted Bob does that right after casually dodging Kazuya’s satellite-destroying death laser too, making the whole scene even more jaw-dropping.

Another fan commented he hasn’t lost any of his surprising speed. In fact, veterans will notice he – like most characters in Tekken 8 – seems faster than ever before: “To quote Eddy from Ed, Edd n Eddy, ‘How can someone that big move so quick!?'” Weight won’t slow our guy down.

Over at r/Tekken, comments seem positive too: “I love that silly fun is coming back to Tekken. Both Bob and Roger will be a very welcome addition. I’m not a Bob player but liked the trailer much more than I expected to. I might give him a spin at some point,” one player pointed out. “Bob is awesome. I enjoyed the whole trailer. This may get me to purchase Season 3 now,” another one added. Such statements are noteworthy considering Tekken 8’s Season 3 pass is currently sitting at Mixed reviews on Steam, with some players being loud about how “messed up” the game feels right now.

“Character tuning and nerfs make little rhyme or reason” is a good example of what the negative Steam reviews posted recently say. “I hate being punished for having a slightly defensive style,” another user said after trying to switch play styles following the more divisive gameplay updates.

While Tekken 8’s content roadmap – which also includes Baki’s Yujiro Hanma – is looking strong, it remains to be seen whether the shaken-up development team can roll things back to a better state before the game’s post-launch run is done. But it appears we all love Bob no matter what.
