The Witcher 3 Remastered Brought in a Community Modder to Help CD Projekt Red Build

CD Projekt Red enlisted the help of a well-known modder to help make the newly revealed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered look better than ever.

The community creator, who calls themselves HalkHogan, shared the news in an update post on the Nexus Mods page for their own The Witcher 3 HD Rework Project (HDRP) mod. This single PC mod alone has garnered more than 320,000 unique downloads and more than 1.6 million views, and it sounds like it caught CD Projekt Red’s attention ahead of The Witcher 3 Remastered, too.

In their message, HalkHogan confirmed their involvement in CD Projekt Red’s official remaster release, telling fans of their work that they’ll no longer need to use HDRP. Instead, they suggest players check out their contributions in The Witcher 3 Remastered, instead.

“Hello, my Witcher friends!” the message reads. “It’s been a while since the last news, and I would like to clarify any questions and confirm that I am cooperating with CDPR on the Witcher 3 Remaster, and my work will be officially available in the game on September 29th (on PC and consoles). HDRP will no longer be needed.”

The modder confirmed that “almost all in-game characters, monsters, animals, vegetation, armors, and equipment for Geralt and Roach,” as well as “a large part of the environment,” have been reworked for The Witcher 3 Remastered. They added, “I’ve put a lot of effort into ensuring the highest quality. :)”

The Witcher 3 Remastered was officially announced at gamescom Opening Night Live (ONL) 2026. It’s currently set to refresh a classic 2015 RPG for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S September 29, 2026, but it sounds like its more than just another small visual update. You can see everything you need to know about it here, and how you can download the upgrade here.

It’s a good time to be a Witcher fan. Also revealed at gamescom ONL 2026 was a first look at the surprise The Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past. Following critically-acclaimed DLC releases like Blood & Wine, IGN’s short time with the content left us excited to see more. You can see everything else the developer had to reveal for the expansion here.
