A new Dead Rising game is reportedly in development.

While there’s been no formal word of a follow-up game, mp1st claims Capcom has another “major” Dead Rising project in the works, reportedly set in Hollywood.

Why We Need More Games Like Dead Rising 2: Case Zero.Watch on YouTube

According to the site’s sources, the game has been in development since 2023. Codenamed ‘Rec’, it reportedly sees the return of Frank West and may be a direct sequel to the 2006 zombie game (the source seemingly wouldn’t confirm either way). Isabela Keyes and the game’s signature Psychopaths will also be returning.

For those who can’t remember that far back, 2010’s Dead Rising 2 boasted similar gameplay to the original game, but featured a completely different character. West only returned in Dead Rising 2’s Case West DLC.

That’s not all, either. The same source claims the main villain will be “an extravagant and deranged film director who forces Frank and other survivors into various trials, all in the pursuit of filming his ‘perfect movie’.”

We’ll also see the return of his “time limit mechanic” and his infamous camera. Sadly, there’s no firm commitment to a release date at this stage, though.

We gave last year’s Dead Rising’s Deluxe Remaster a middling three out of five stars, writing “the over-the-top zombie shenanigans still hold up in 2024, but next to the remaster from 2016, this is definitely geared more toward first-time players than returning fans.”
