Valve’s Deadlock is still invite-only, but that hasn’t stopped six new characters being added via a major update

A new major update for Deadlock suddenly dropped, bringing six new characters that will join the roster gradually, a new game mode, and various quality-of-life tweaks to the popular MOBA.

Perhaps the most notable addition in this update, dubbed Old Gods New Blood, is a faster-paced game mode called Street Brawl. A quick 4v4 alternative, the shopping system is streamlined down to a random selection each round. In addition resources are equalised across all players, with farming disabled.

The patrons have been given a proper redesign too, as do their minions, finally giving each team’s endboss the makeover they’ve been sorely lacking. They are the Hidden King and the Archmother, two polar opposites with their own thematic arena.

Then there’s the six new characters. These are Silver, Rem, Graves, Apollo, Celeste, and Venator. Two of them will release per-week, with the first two hitting the game starting the 26th January. Players can vote to determine the release order, with votes earned by playing the game.

Once the heroes are out, a priority token system will be rolled out to help Deadlock players get an opportunity to try these newcomers out. There are also going to be in-game sprays for each newcomer available, so you can promote your vote in live matches. Pretty cool!

As for those quality-of-life changes, there are some absolute scorchers coming. A revamped post-game screen is on the way, alongside an adjustment to how the MVP is determined. More detailed post-game stats screens will help break down your performance, and UI overhauls are aiming to improve visibility and ease of play.

There’s also a massive rework to the in-game settings, and ongoing map updates. You can read a full breakdown of all the changes and additions on the Deadlock website.

Funnily enough, the Deadlock community anticipated some big news would be dropping overnight, thanks to a surge in activity at local pizza spots by the Valve office. Much like the pentagon, it seems when the pizzas are rolling fresh and fast near Valve, something’s afoot.
