Bethesda has doubled down on its plans to support Starfield “for years” to come.
Earlier today, Bethesda lifted the lid on two new updates coming to Starfield in April, while also confirming its long-rumoured PS5 release. The first of these updates is known as Terran Armada, a new story DLC that will allow players to “shape the future of humanity in space”, while coming face to face with “robotic forces”. The second is the aptly named free Free Lanes update, which adds a slew of content including robot companions and a Milliewhale pet.
In a Q&A which Eurogamer attended ahead of today’s announcement, Bethesda exec Tim Lamb said while all of this new content shouldn’t be seen as Starfield 2.0, he does believe “this is the best version” of the game. But, does that also mean this is the end of content updates for Starfield? Well, it certainly doesn’t sound like it.
“We plan to support Starfield for years, and we do have long-term plans,” Lamb said in the same Q&A. So, while Bethesda doesn’t “have anything to announce right now”, the team is “still actively working on Starfield”.
Now this of course could simply suggest the studio is working on general refinements and such behind the scenes, however Lamb implied that Bethesda also has something more chunky – such as a story expansion – in mind for the future.
“There’s more lore and more ideas we want us to pursue,” Lamb closed.
Back in 2024, studio head Todd Howard confirmed at least one more Starfield expansion after Shattered Space, which was released that same year. “While Shattered Space is quite possibly one of Starfield’s most enjoyable storylines to date, it once again struggles to offer any real consequences,” Katharine Castle wrote of the game’s first expansion, in Eurogamer’s Starfield: Shattered Space review. “And its new setting feels woefully underutilised.”
