Starfield sells 140K units on PS5 after one week

Starfield’s Free Lanes update and the Terran Armada DLC are pretty fun… as long as you want more Starfield. The game’s long-awaited PS5 port has run into a number of big issues since it launched on 7th April though, and fixes are coming soon. How does that translate into sales numbers? The first estimates are in…

Alinea Analytics’ report (via ResetEra) on the game’s first week performance on PS5 paints a picture which isn’t very surprising. Bethesda’s space RPG isn’t an immediate hit on the platform, yet it’s one-week total of roughly 140K copies sold already tops a few of Xbox’s recent ports to Sony’s console.

So far, Avowed‘s PS5 version (released in February) has reportedly sold around 54K units, and Age of Empires 4’s November 2025 port sits at 52K. Much more worrying is South of Midnight‘s performance so far on PS5: only 16K copies after two weeks (it launched on 31st March). After one week, Bethesda’s divisive space odyssey is faring much better.

Still, perhaps internal expectations were higher for a game that reportedly performed very well on PC and the Xbox ecosystem despite all the complaints about the overall formula and its rough edges. According to Alinea Analytics head of market analysis Rhys Elliott, the Steam version of the game had already moved 3.7m copies before the Free Lanes update. On Xbox, around 1m copies have been sold despite over 8m players checking the game out via Game Pass.

At the time of writing, Ninja Gaiden 4, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and The Outer Worlds 2 all outperform Starfield with 257K, 245K, and 160K units respectively, but it should perform fine in the long run if it has legs and player feedback is turned around in the coming weeks and months. Regardless, it’s hard to imagine it reaching Sea of Thieves and Forza Horizon 5’s level of success on PS5.
