Resident Evil Requiem director says “sharpen your tomahawks” as new minigame details emerge

Resident Evil Requiem’s upcoming minigame is in the “final stages” of development, and will be based on the main game’s combat, Requiem’s director has teased. However, you’ll need to have finished the main story to give it a go.

Last month, Requiem’s director Koshi Nakanishi confirmed that, along with some new story DLC, the team at Capcom was working on a new minigame for the latest Resident Evil entry, which would arrive “around May”. However at the time, he didn’t give any more specifics about what the minigame would involve.

That has changed now, though, thanks to a new interview with Denfaminicogamer. Here, Nakanishi confirmed the upcoming minigame is “strictly based” on Requiem’s combat. “For those who’ve cleared the main game and are thinking, ‘I still haven’t had my fill of mayhem!’, I think it’ll be something that makes you go ‘Whoo-hoo!!’ and have a good time, so please sharpen your tomahawks and look forward to it,” Nakanishi said (translated via DeepL).

Resident Evil Requiem’s producer Masato Kumazawa added, “These minigames are unlockable content that becomes available once you’ve cleared the main game. So, if there are any of you who are yet to play, I think clearing it during Golden Week would be the perfect time to have them ready to play.” Golden Week, if you’re unfamiliar, is an annual holiday period in Japan, which runs 29th April until 5th May.

Personally, I am still only around 70 percent (at a guess) through Requiem, so I best get cracking. Or, chainsawing. Or, tomahawking…

On its release earlier this year, we dubbed Resident Evil Requiem as “legendary horror at an all-time high”, praising its dual leads Leon and newcomer Grace. It has been a huge success for Capcom, becoming the fastest-selling game in the series.

Earlier this week, Resident Evil 2 director Hideki Kamiya confirmed that Resi’s buff and suave jacket-owner Leon was actually named after Luc Besson’s 1994 film, Léon: The Professional.
