The Thief franchise is enjoying a major resurgence in 2026, with Thief: The Dark Project Remastered coming to PC and consoles this winter. Now, IGN can exclusively reveal that the franchise is also expanding to the world of comics via a new graphic novel called Thief: Pulse of Promise.
Thief: Pulse of Promise is a collaboration between Bit Bot and Eidos-Montréal. This 147-page graphic novel takes place between the events of 1998’s Thief: The Dark Project and 2000’s Thief II: The Metal Age. The book is being crowdfunded on BackerKit.
Thief: Pulse of Promise is written by Joshua Viola (Legacy of Kain, The Rocky Horror Show) and Sean Eads (Terror in the Corn, Lord Byron’s Prophecy), with interior art by Emanuele Ercolani (Masters of the Universe) and Gianluca Papi (Mirka Andolfo’s Mercy) and letters by Jeremiah Lambert (Transformers). Here’s the official summary of the book:
Thief: Pulse of Promise follows master thief Garrett as a seemingly straightforward heist draws him into forgotten Keeper secrets, strange powers hidden beneath the City, and a mysterious young boy whose fate may shape the future. Featuring appearances by fan-favorites such as Artemus and Father Karras, this all-new adventure bridges a pivotal chapter in Garrett’s life leading to the Age of Metal.
“Thief remains one of the most influential and beloved stealth game franchises ever created,” said Viola in a statement. “Every aspect of Pulse of Promise was developed in close collaboration with Eidos-Montréal to help ensure the story, characters, factions, and world align with what longtime fans would expect from this era of Garrett’s life. We wanted this to feel like a genuine standalone chapter between The Dark Project and The Metal Age.”
“Thief isn’t just a masterclass in stealth gameplay, it’s one of the most innovative and influential modern dark fantasy stories, period,” said Bit Bot Creative Director Frank O’Connor. “It’s an honor to witness to the expansion of that storytelling and narrative evolution in graphic novel format, and I’m genuinely enthralled to see what the world thinks of Garrett’s next cynical outlook on what it means to thrive, survive and purloin interesting swag in Thief: Pulse of Promise.”
There will be three different versions of Thief: Pulse of Promise available during the BackerKit campaign. In addition to the standard hardcover with a cover by Ercolani, there will also be a Limited Hardcover Edition with an exclusive cover by Claudio Mastronardi (Diabolik) and a Deluxe Hardcover Edition with an exclusive cover by Tyler Kirkham (The Amazing Spider-Man), a slipcase cover, and additional bonus content. The campaign also features optional collectibles like a Garrett statue, a plush doll, art prints, and Garrett mechanical eye collector’s set. Backers who pre-register on BackerKit will also receive an exclusive, custom-minted Thief coin.
