Season two of Amazon’s live-action Fallout adaptation might have been a bit of a divisive one, but that hasn’t stopped it from being showered with another bunch of nominations ahead of this year’s prestigious Emmy Awards. In total, Fallout’s second TV outing has made it in nine categories – a decent clutch, even if it’s significantly less than the 16 nominations it got for season one.
As per the US Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ website, this year’s Emmy Awards – which, as always, are intended to recognise excellence in American primetime television programming – see Fallout season two nominated in the following categories (the specific episode up for an award is listed at the end of each, in case you were wondering):
- Outstanding Sound Editing For A Comedy Or Drama Series – The Strip
- Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes – The Strip
- Outstanding Stunt Performance – The Profligate
- Outstanding Period Or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) – The Strip
- Outstanding Stunt Coordination For Drama Programming
- Outstanding Period Or Fantasy/Sci-Fi Hairstyling – The Strip
- Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour) – The Strip
- Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup – The Demon in the Snow
- Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Period Or Fantasy Program (One Hour Or More) – The Wrangler
It’s a fine fist of nominations, then, even if Fallout’s second season misses out on some of the more high-profile Emmy Awards categories it was nominated for in 2024. These biggies included Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series, and Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series – although the show ultimately walked away with just two wins from the 16 categories it was nominated for: Outstanding Music Supervision and Outstanding Emerging Media Program.
Will Fallout fare any better in 2026? Time will tell, but it certainly has some stiff competition this year. HBO Max‘s acclaimed medical drama The Pitt has received 25 nominations, while Apple TV’s enjoyably spooky Widow’s Bay has 19, and the streamer’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi show Pluribus has 18.
Back in January, figures emerged suggesting Fallout’s second season might be suffering from a bit of a sophomore slump, but even so, Amazon later declared it to be Prime Video’s sixth biggest season of all time. Then, in April, it was revealed to be the streaming service’s second biggest returning series of all time, behind only Reacher’s second season.
As for us, we thought it had its moments despite failing to live up to 2024’s stellar inaugural outing. “In the end I didn’t feel this season was as strong as the first,” Alex Donaldson wrote. “I can easily see this later being viewed as a ‘bridge’ between the first and whatever comes next. But I nevertheless left it with a very familiar feeling – mind racing with the thoughts of what this all means. For the show, for the next game, for the series in general. Any tie-in or spin-off that can achieve that is a winner.”
