Crazy Taxi: World Tour has competitive multiplayer, and you’ve got a chance to play it very soon

Sega announced it’s hosting a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour. The limited test is available across PC (Steam and Xbox app), PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It runs for a single session from 11th September to 13th September.

Sign-ups have kicked off, and will be available until 31st August at 11:59pm PT, 2:59am ET, 7:59am BST (1st September). As long as you’re 13 years or older, you can sign up, you’ll just need to create a Sega account if you don’t already have one.

Not everyone who signs up is going to get invited, however. If you’re interested, you can sign up at the link. Sega will email you instructions on how to access the test if you’re selected. The test also isn’t open to everyone in the world; only players in these countries can sign-up:

United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong.

The goal of this particular test, as the name suggests, is to stress test “the stability of the online multiplayer functionality”. No single-player or story mode content will be available.

To that end, you’ll have access to two multiplayer modes: Pickup Race and Cops ā€˜N’ Cabbies. Pickup Race has six players compete to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit. Cops ā€˜N’ Cabbies, on the other hand, is a team-based mode where players will be split in two teams to compete against each other.

Ranked mode will be supported for both modes, if you really take Crazy Taxi seriously. Players can also create custom lobbies during the test and set their own rules. The available modes can be played on two maps. You can choose from six cars and four characters. Certain car tune-up options will be available, too.

Finally, the official sign-up page linked above has two sets of PC specs, minimum and recommended. It’s best to check those against your own PC, though Sega says they don’t necessarily reflect requirements of the final build.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour was announced earlier in June and immediately stirred up controversy for its use of generative AI. Series creator Kenji Kanno later clarified the generated material was only used as a reference.
