Koei Tecmo wants to avoid “dependence on major titles”, though expectations for Wo Long 2 and Attack on Titan 3 are high

Koei Tecmo has been on a roll recently, with heavy hitters like Nioh 3 and Dynasty Warriors: Origins elevating established IPs while surprising collaborations like Pokémon Pokopia have become viral sensations. According to the latest financial report from the company, however, fans should expect variety over a deluge of large-scale games.

Japanese website GameBiz shared a rundown of the first-quarter earnings briefing for the fiscal year that ends in March 2027. “Backed by an expanded development structure, the company plans to build a portfolio that combines not only major titles but also mid-range games, and will continuously release new titles, including unannounced titles, until fiscal year 2027.”

In the short to mid-term, Koei Tecmo says it aims to release “six major console and PC titles, 19 mid-range titles, and two (already announced) original online and mobile titles”. Even if it seems a lot of weight has been put on triple-A projects like Attack on Titan 3 and Wo Long 2, the report from the company underlines it’s “prioritizing portfolio balance” with ports, remasters, and a few smaller projects aimed at loyal communities that perhaps aren’t as mainstream.

When compared to whatever is happening in the Western games industry, it sounds like a very sensible approach on paper, yet Koei Tecmo still has high expectations for the third Attack on Titan game and Wo Long 2, which should be its next two triple-A releases. An all-new action game with “oriental-style aesthetics” is reportedly in development too.

Even taking those three titles into account, Koei Tecmo’s comments suggest we’ll be hearing about several other high-profile titles sooner rather than later. And of course, there’s a fancy Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster launching in October, plus the ongoing development of updates and paid DLC packs for Pokopia alongside Game Freak and Nintendo.
