Phasmophobia’s second Quality of Life update adds Restricted maps, VR fixes, and much creepier deaths

Kinetic Games has released Phasmophobia‘s second Quality of Life update, adding a raft of new Restricted maps, streamlined Evidence collection, VR fixes, and considerably more ways to die.

Now live on PC and PlayStation (the Xbox release is “to follow”), the Quality of Life Part 2 update builds on Quality of Life Part 1 which introduced the revamped 13 Willow Street map back in July alongside a batch of other gameplay tweaks.

We’re getting a (long-overdue!) set of new small-to-medium Restricted maps for Prison, Brownstone High School, and Point Hope, bringing condensed versions of the original maps designed to speed up investigations and add more variety to runs.

Evidence collection has also been streamlined. Rather than manually checking the in-game journal, players can now tell whether a piece of evidence has already been logged directly from their Photo Camera, Video Camera, or Sound Recorder via faded overlays and yellow LEDs.

Evidence and ghost types selected by teammates will also now show up for the whole team, cutting down on last-minute double-checking before a hunt.

VR players get a more responsive character rig that better tracks real-world body movement, along with a range of community-flagged bug fixes. There are changes to death, too: dying now turns a player’s skin greyer and their eyes mistier, and cuts their voice chat the moment they’re killed.

The update arrives a couple of months after Kinetic Games confirmed Phasmophobia’s 1.0 launch had slipped from this year into 2027, as the studio said it was prioritising quality over speed following a rocky reception to its Player Character Update. Kinetic Games ended up apologising to players for issues with its long-awaited ‘Player Character Update’, admitting it “missed the mark” and “didn’t deliver on our promises to you”.

In numerous patches and hotfixes released since to address the many issues spawned by the latest update, the studio explained how it had been working through player feedback to provide “a much better experience for everyone playing Phasmophobia”.

“We’ve read feedback from across the entire community. The frustration and disappointment has been clear,” the team admitted.
