Reaction streams to Grand Theft Auto 6‘s first gameplay presentation peaked at 3,970,738 viewers across livestreaming platforms, making it the biggest gaming stream of 2026 so far.
That’s according to new data from Streams Charts, which claims 9,038 streamers covered Rockstar Games‘ Netflix reveal, racking up 5,227,798 hours watched.
That puts GTA 6’s reveal ahead of Summer Game Fest 2026’s 3.81 million peak viewers, as well as June’s Nintendo Direct and State of Play broadcasts. Twitch carried the largest share of the audience, accounting for around 44 percent of total hours watched, ahead of YouTube (34.8% percent) and Kick (20.2 percent).
Spanish streamer Juan Alberto “IlloJuan” García led the way with 233,520 peak viewers, a new record for his own channel, ahead of Rubius (191,056) and IShowSpeed (177,887).
The reveal went out at 8pm UK time, but heavy demand caused technical issues on both Netflix and Twitch, with some viewers reportedly locked out for 40-50 minutes. That didn’t deter internet hype, though; Streams Charts also tracked more than 100,000 chat messages about the game across the three-hour window it analysed.
While the bulk of tracked messages about the reveal – 65-72 percent – were neutral, positive messages made up 11-15 percent of the total, while negative messages sat at around 17-20 percent, much of it aimed at the Twitch and Netflix outages rather than the game itself.
Around a fifth of all messages also compared the reveal to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, generally with a negative tone, with one viewer complaining: “GTA V DLC FOR 80$ LMAO”.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is due out on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This week’s GTA 6 bonanza revealed a wealth of new information about the game, such as a changed Wanted system, a changed carjacking system, a new romance system, a huge game world, and a list of in-game activities.
This is what a billion dollars gets you, observed Chris Donlan, though as Chris Tapsell pointed out, this push towards realism and away from easy-going fun is a huge risk for the series – even if, he argued, it’s ultimately right that it takes it.
It’s a big and exciting moment for Rockstar after a week of leaked GTA 6 videos. But the hype has a bitter edge, as dozens of employees recently fired by Rockstar North continue to battle the company in employment tribunals over alleged union-busting.
