Double Fine has wasted no time in bringing its curious adventure game Keeper to PlayStation 5, just weeks after the studio was ditched by Xbox.
Keeper is a colorful and dreamy adventure starring a crumbling lighthouse and a mysterious bird. Despite being critically praised, the project failed to find a wide audience on Xbox Series X/S and PC where it debuted last year, and was Double Fine’s penultimate project before Microsoft decided to cut ties with the company.
Its arrival on PlayStation isn’t a huge surprise — Double Fine has brought other titles to PS5 as well during its now-concluded era of Xbox ownership — though its swift arrival is still notable. Likewise, the fact that this news was confirmed today in Sony’s big State of Play broadcast — it’s harder to imagine the news appearing in this way had the studio remained under Xbox’s thumb.
“Exploring Keeper’s surreal world is a feast for the senses, with every detail from its propulsive score to its Seussian flora and fauna pulling me deeper into its tale,” we wrote in IGN’s Keeper review, awarding it a 9/10 score.
Earlier this week, Double Fine launched a new Kickstarter campaign to help secure its immediate future, and promised to make Brütal Legend 2 if it raised an impossible-sounding $100 million.
Today’s announcement comes as part of the latest showcase from PlayStation. Catch up on everything announced during Sony’s State of Play September 2026 broadcast right here.
