The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct Live Blog — News, Trailers, and Everything Announced

It’s almost time for The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, and IGN will be reporting live with all the news, trailers, and whatever else Nintendo has in store for us right here.

The action kicks off today, September 8, at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm UK time with a Direct that will celebrate the Zelda series’ 40th anniversary. Nintendo said to expect “a variety of information related to The Legend of Zelda” from the Direct, which will last roughly 30 minutes. You can read up on how to watch both Nintendo Direct presentations here.

We’ve got a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct prediction article already live on IGN with plenty of speculation, but my money’s on a first look at gameplay for the Ocarina of Time remake. The price seemingly leaked online earlier today, so I expect we’ll get confirmation alongside a release date, too (we know it’s due out this year but we don’t know when exactly).

But the first gameplay is the big news here. We still don’t know what to expect from this remake — is it a full blown remake or more of a remaster? What are the changes to the original, if any? And what does it actually look like?

I’m hoping for answers to all those questions, as well as a first trailer for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, which is due out April 30, 2027. It’s time for us to finally find out if Link actually speaks in this film, and, assuming he does, what does he actually sound like? I’m also expecting a cast reveal after months of reports on who’s playing who.

Beyond that? I’m sure Nintendo has a Zelda Switch 2 bundle up its sleeve (images of a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Switch 2 console and Pro Controller appeared online last month), and maybe an Ocarina of Time amiibo for fans to fuss over. Could Nintendo be ready to tease the next mainline The Legend of Zelda game? It feels like it might steal the Ocarina of Time remake’s thunder somewhat, but this is Nintendo — you never really know what you’re going to get.

Check back below where we’ll have live updates from The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. And be sure to set a reminder for tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct, which will focus on Nintendo Switch 2 games launching this winter.
