The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake gameplay finally revealed during 40th anniversary Nintendo Direct, and it looks… interesting

Gameplay has been released for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake at long last during today’s Zelda 40th anniversary Nintendo Direct. It’ll be releasing on the Nintendo Switch 2 on the 5th November.

The gameplay, narrated by producer Eiji Aonuma, shows what looks to be a largely faithful recreation of the original 3rd person adventure classic, albeit with some modern advancements. For one, Link can jump manually now, and the whole game has been brought to life in a new engine.

A lot of classic sounds and animations also appear to have been either brought over untouched, or recreated faithfully. The famous chest opening animation, for example, looks very much the same as it did all those years ago. Just with that newer aesthetic applied to it!

A particularly cool feature was also shown in regards to playing Link’s iconic ocarina. Players can turn on their microphone and hum, whistle, or sing the various tunes required for gameplay changes to occur.

That’s where the gameplay presentation largely ends. Some final notes on there being a lot of work on audio capped off the gameplay. Cutscences will be fully-voiced, and the theme of this new Zelda remake will be added to the Nintendo Music platform.

There will also be a Zelda notes companion app available for this game, allowing you to take screenshots and venture on mini-quests of discovery for points. There is also an ocarina music feature allowing you to make your own tracks, and a quiz.

What do you think of it?
