Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
The remaster was announced during the new Nintendo Direct and will release on February 25. The definitive edition will feature enhanced visuals, 60FPS, more enemies on-screen, all DLC from the original version, a harder difficulty mode, and a discount for existing owners on Switch 1. You’ll also be able to transfer your save data, making it all the more convenient. The exact discount has yet to be revealed, but more details will be shared soon.
For those who have never played it, Age of Calamity serves as sort of a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It ultimately diverges into a different timeline and therefore its place in the canon is debated among fans, but many of its events still inform a lot of elements in Breath of the Wild. As a result, it’s not required playing in order to understand Breath of the Wild, but it may enhance the experience a bit.
Age of Calamity also has a different style of gameplay from traditional Zelda games, as it’s much more of a hack and slash game. The Switch 1 version was largely well-liked, but was heavily criticized for performance issues. It seems like the Switch 2 version will directly address this critique with the inclusion of 60FPS, while also enhancing the amount of action on screen.
It has been a big week for Zelda fans, as we also got a glimpse at the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The remake is set to release on November 5 and will likely be one of the biggest releases of the fall.
