Campaign Evolved Modders Already Adding CJ From GTA, Iron Man, and More

Halo: Campaign Evolved already has a bunch of mods, some of which are genuine quality-of-life upgrades, while others make silly additions, such as replacing Master Chief with Iron Man and CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Halo: Campaign Evolved officially released earlier this week, and fans were quick to back all of its layers. Players swiftly discovered that the game has a secret ending, which seems to point to a remake of Halo 2. However, people are now using the foundation of Halo’s Unreal Engine debut to mod the game to oblivion. Some of these mods are actually very helpful and make the game better, while others are, admittedly, very absurd.

For starters, Halo: Campaign Evolved has a mod where you can swap out the ever-stoic Master Chief for Carl Johnson, the protagonist from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It’s sort of a rite of passage for games to have a playable CJ mod, as he’s a very simple model to port between titles. It’s also just very comical to see a regular man in a tank top and jeans running around fantastical environments, such as a sci-fi world where he can fight aliens.

Halo: Campaign Evolved also boasts a third-person POV if you find the right skull modifier for it, which would probably be the ideal way to experience this mod; otherwise, you’ll only be able to see his hands in gameplay. Other mods also let you play as Iron Man, Brutes, and custom Spartans. There’s a wealth of additional mods that change the gameplay experience as well, including visual overhauls that make the graphics even more realistic, downgrade it to PS1 visuals, and even one that adds a dynamic day/night cycle.

As for gameplay changes, some mods add weapons, tweak existing guns to be more like other Halo games, and there’s even one that adds the jetpack from Halo: Reach. On consoles, players can play the game in split-screen, but that’s not possible on PC… unless you download a mod that adds the feature in. Ultimately, there are already a lot of really fun ways to enhance the game on PC, and if you’re looking to spice up this Halo remake, you should check out the game’s page on NexusMods.
