Crimson Desert Enhanced is a free upgrade that’s out now and revamps the story, adds new skills and comes with all previously-released updates

Crimson Desert Enhanced was among the more surprising reveals of Gamescom Opening Night Live. Not because it was a trailer for a game that’s already available, but that it was justified when the trailer ran through the new additions in Enhanced.

Crimson Desert Enhanced is a multi-fold upgrade. This version includes everything up to this week’s 2.00 patch; that is all previous updates and post-launch additions. It also adds new stuff across the entire game, in the form of story cutscenes, more narrative moments, new skills and more.

Developer Pearl Abyss is seemingly so confident in these narrative upgrades that Enhanced launches localised in five new voice languages: German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese. It also includes Arabic subtitles and user interface text.

Among the upgrades featured in the new update and Enhanced are new skills you can equip. In fact, the skill system has been overhauled. Abyss Link has been added as a new resource you can spend on learning skills. This is tied to Abyss Artifacts, and when you use one, your other characters will be awarded Abyss Links to invest in learning skills.

Each character has their own Abyss Links inventory, meaning you can have different builds without affecting each other, and you can reset skill progression individually, too. This refunds all previously used Abyss Links.

Beyond the tweaks to the skill system, there are eight new skills for you to find and equip. The new skills become available after reaching a certain point in the main story, according to the Crimson Desert patch notes.

Patch 2.00 is available now on all platforms, except the Mac App Store, where it’ll arrive “at a later time”. The patch upgrades your game to Enhanced once installed. To celebrate the launch, the game is currently on sale for 20 percent off.

Crimson Desert is one of the year’s most successful releases, selling over 6 million copies in just three months. Pearl Abyss confirmed earlier this month that a Switch 2 version is currently in development, and hinted at some sort of multiplayer-focused expansions and potential sequels in the future.
