Crimson Desert passes another big sales milestone as demand continues three months after release

We’re just under three months since the release of Crimson Desert, the open-world action RPG from Korean studio Pearl Abyss. The game has continued to break sales records since it first became available for sale, and its developer has today announced a new sales milestone.

Crimson Desert has now sold over 6m copies worldwide – and this figure represents copies sold-through rather than simply shipped to retailers. Pearl Abyss broke the news on X and elsewhere, thanking players for their support.

The most recent sales update was announced in late April, when Crimson Desert had sold 5m copies. At the time, Pearl Abyss celebrated by awarding its staff a bonus of 5m KRW (~$3,400), with another bonus promised at the start of next year, based on this year’s financial performance.

Crimson Desert had something of a mixed critical reception at launch, but players flocked to it. While reviews lamented its unfocused, MMO-like structure, disappointing narrative, and imprecise controls, that clearly hasn’t stopped millions from continuing to buy and play it.

For its part, Pearl Abyss has been diligently releasing updates to improve the game. The developer is seemingly open to addressing any and all concerns, recently revealing that it’s reworking the game’s story to “refine and improve the coherence of key scenes.”

Though the pace of patches has slowed down, Crimson Desert continues to get regular updates to address player concerns, add requested features, fix longstanding issues and more besides.

The game’s most recent update arrived last week, adding new minigames, including a pinball minigame, of all things. The same patch also made tweaks to the Re-Blockade feature, added new mounts and pets, and fixed a host of bugs.
