Done with Skyrim? Its spruced-up predecessor The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is coming to Switch 2

We already knew – or at least strongly suspected, thanks to a couple of leaks – Bethesda would have a big presence during Nintendo’s latest Partner Direct showcase, but it turns out the studio had a little more up its sleeve than just Fallout and Indiana Jones. It’s now confirmed that last year’s The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is coming to Switch 2.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is, of course, a spruced-up version of Bethesda’s well-regarded 2006 open-world fantasy RPG – setting players loose in a much-beautified version of Cyrodiil, courtesy of Unreal Engine 5. Alongside an obvious visual upgrade – including new character models – it also features improved combat, a new levelling system, an updated UI, and more. Not that you’ll likely notice any of this stuff if it’s your first time with Oblivion.

“What a treat to go back to this one again,” Eurogamer’s Chris Tapsell wrote of Oblivion Remastered when we named it one of our top 50 game of 2025. “Oblivion may have shed some of the complexity and outlandishness of Morrowind, but in doing so it also shed the intimidation factor. This is really the genesis of all modern – especially western – open world RPGs today, and frankly it’s still a lesson in how that structure should be done.”

As for the newly announced Switch 2 version, there’s not a whole lot of specific information to report just yet, with Bethesda mostly whizzing through the basics during Oblivion Remastered’s Nintendo Partner Direct debut. What we do know, though, is that it’s heading to the platform sometime in “2026”, joining Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones: The Great Circle – both of which have also now been officially confirmed for Switch 2.
