Doom runs on pretty much everything, and soon it’ll be on retro Evercade consoles

The Evercade consoles remain one of the most fascinating pieces of modern hardware on the market. Mainly aimed at collectors, but also welcoming enough so that younger gamers become interested in retro gaming, they blur the line between modern emulation and older original consoles. Now, the king of retro shooters is coming to them: Doom is invading yet another platform.

The gory demon-slaying series somehow hadn’t launched on the Evercade consoles yet, but it now seems that Blaze Entertainment has figured out a deal with Xbox-owned ZeniMax and Bethesda just in time for id Software’s 35th anniversary.

On 4th February, a short teaser was shared on social media channels and through YouTube. There’s not much to it, and it doesn’t even confirm how many games will be included in the long-awaited cartridge, but it’s a start:

Hopefully, “coming in 2026” doesn’t mean Evercade owners and Doom fans (often the same) will have to wait until the next QuakeCon to get a date or shadow drop. And before you ask, nope, you can’t preorder this release yet.

The logical assumption here is that at least Doom 1 & 2 will be part of the hot package, but if they really want to celebrate the series’ legacy, the latter re-releases (with extra content) and even Doom 64 should be included too. Recent jumbo-sized retro offerings like the extremely rich Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection have raised the bar for physical re-releases of olden classics, so we won’t be surprised if Doom diehards set their expectations high for this one.
