Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls had a Magik-al open beta weekend, as character popularity data reveals a surprising community favourite

The data is in! Following the weekend open beta for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, one player has done the work and discovered which character was the most popular among enthusiastic players.

Fighting game player and webtoon creator AlietteFaye gathered data on character usage from players at Vibranium rank and higher, and found that Magik proved the most popular character. In second place came Blade, then Magneto, followed by Spider-Man.

Magik was also the most popular character in the leader position in teams (meaning the character you start a match using). Black Panther took the third place spot here, with the second and fourth spot filled by Spider-Man and Blade again.

As for the least popular characters, it looks like Danger is down at the bottom. Ms Marvel comes in second-to-last, and then Captain America comes third from the bottom. That itself is surprising, as he is the tutorial character and the closest to a Jack-of-all-trades on the cast.

For clarity, Vibranium rank is the second-highest tier available in the beta, meaning the players whose accounts were analysed would have been especially keen players over the weekend. It’s entirely possible these figures will be different if all players were looked at, though that’s probably too much work for a single person given how popular it seemed to be.

These dedicated players would have had to tackle some technical problems, sadly. On PC, gameplay and performance problems ran amok for a portion of the playerbase, something Arc System Works has apologised for. Meanwhile, PlayStation players had to take a break from the game during a PSN outage which kept them from jumping online.

Magik coming in at the number one spot is an interesting result, considering the arcane mutant is a relatively unknown character among casual Marvel fans – especially compared to your Iron Mans and Captain Americas. She’s proven a fan-favourite among those in the know, however. Still, with a cool new design and a big sword, it looks like there might be… Magik in the air? Sorry, sorry.
