Dungeons & Dragons is getting an official Star Wars expansion as part of its Universes Beyond label.
Lucasfilm’s galaxy far, far away will be the second Universes Beyond addition to D&D, following the previously-announced World of Warcraft expansion that we covered in detail last night. (Yes, you can play as a member of every WOW race — even Pandaren.)
D&D’s big Gen Con 2026 reveal panel last night ended with one last surprise, however — that a Star Wars tabletop expansion will arrive in 2027 as part of the company’s Season of Rebellion, due in the back half of next year.

Further details are thin on the ground for now — D&D has plenty of other releases on its product map due out first before Star Wars, though last night’s announcement was greeted warmly, especially as Darth Vader appeared on stage to relay the news.
D&D’s Star Wars expansion caps off a very busy 12 months for Wizards of the Coast’s tabletop brand. It all kicks off this year with the Season of Magic that contains the Arcana Unleashed expansion. This adds a further eight subclasses, 10 backgrounds, 29 feats, 33 spells, 19 magical creatures and more. You can then delve further via Deadfall, a high-stakes magical espionage campaign for characters at levels 11-20.
2027 begins with the Season of Survival, which will see D&D’s adult Dark Sun setting return. Here, the brand is even releasing a book that comes shrink-wrapped and with a content warning for violence, sex and nudity. Next up will be the Season of Sword & Sorcery, featuring a return to Greyhawk with a new Crown of the Witch Queen expansion, before the Star Wars-themed Season of Rebellion.
For fans concerned that D&D is straying too far from its roots in the Forgotten Realms, Wizards of the Coast has stressed that its Universes Beyond explorations are separate and additional to its core offerings, with extra staff brought in to work on these projects, rather than them being a replacement for core expansions.
“We want to let our community know that D&D Universes Beyond is additive to the incredible roadmap we have for our own worlds,” Wizards of the Coast wrote in a blog post on its forthcoming product roadmap. “We have been staffing up to support this initiative and look forward to what the future holds.”
