Embracer group has offered updates on a number of its upcoming video games, narrowing some release windows for big titles.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next Kingdom Come game from Warhorse, and Darksiders 4 are all due out during the 2028 financial year, Embracer Group CEO, Phil Rogers, said. That means — as it stands now, we all know how video game development can go — all three high-profile games will be released by April 2028, as Embracer’s financial year ends on March 31. But not before April 1, 2027, when the next financial year begins.
Speaking of this financial year, Metro 2039 and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis are both due out in February 2027, and had confirmed release dates already. If you’re wondering, Legacy of Atlantis is the remake of the first Tomb Raider game in Unreal Engine 5, and Catalyst is a brand new entry in the long-running franchise.
Embracer said momentum for Metro 2039 is “strong,” with 1 million wishlists reached faster than any title in Embracer’s history. “Wishlists continue to grow ahead of expectation,” Embracer added. That bodes well for 4A Games’ first-person horror shooter.
Warhorse isn’t just working on the next Kingdom Come game, it’s also working on a new game set in Middle-earth, which Embracer owns the rights to. “It was a truly exciting moment for our teams to see how the news resonated with fans across the globe,” Embracer said. “It offered a glimpse into the potential for our IPs and our studios if we do things right.” There’s no release window for that one.
Indeed, details are light. When Warhorse announced the game, it called it an “open world Middle-earth RPG,” so it’s unclear which era of Tolkien’s fantasy setting the game takes place in. But it seems likely to follow the template established by the studio’s hugely popular Kingdom Come: Deliverance games; the Middle-earth team is led by Viktor Bocan, the design director on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Fellowship Entertainment, which Embracer is in the process of spinning off, owns and operates the Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Tomb Raider intellectual property rights, along with IPs such as Darksiders, Dead Island, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Metro and Remnant, among many others.
And in the short term, the recently delayed real-time strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 now launches in December 2026.
