For the first time ever in a Call of Duty beta, the Modern Warfare 4 beta includes a campaign mission

Activision has announced several new details about the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, whose first leg is set to kick off Friday. The official Call of Duty X account posted a dense image showing all content players have access to, and it’s certainly more than many expected.

The big news this year is that the beta features a full mission from the campaign. This is the Entrenched mission Modern Warfare 4 recently showed off in a vignette. Call of Duty campaigns are typically kept under wraps for much of the pre-launch cycle, with only certain details revealed in official trailers, leaving players to discover the rest for themselves.

There appears to be an effort to get more players to play the campaign this year, a mode only a small percentage of the player base even starts. It’s also worth noting that Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty in several years to bring back campaign early access.

As previously announced, the Modern Warfare 4 beta takes place over two sessions. The first, 21st-25th August, is available only to players who pre-ordered the full game. You can play on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Alongside the aforementioned campaign mission, the first weekend includes five 6v6 multiplayer maps: Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, and Lotus. On those maps, you can expect Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy, as well as the new and yet-unrevealed Inflation game mode. The recently revealed Kill Block mode is part of the first session in both its 3v3 and 10v10 variants, too.

Luckily for players who don’t want to pre-order to play the early access portion of the beta, the open portion is the more exciting, as it includes new content on top of what’s available in the first weekend. The second takes place 28th August – 1st September on the same platforms, now with the addition of Nintendo Switch 2another first for Call of Duty.

The chief addition in terms of what’s playable is Warzone’s upcoming Resurgence map Zodiac, which has been teased but never officially detailed. It’s still not clear whether the updated version of the free-to-play battle royale mode launches alongside Modern Warfare 4 in October or later in the year.

Another notable addition in the second weekend is Ground War, the combined arms mode that debuted with the Modern Warfare 2019 reboot. Ground War includes two maps in the beta: Imjin Farmland, and Wolves Stadium.

As for Zodiac, a first look at the Warzone map will also be part of the returning Call of Duty: Next event, which is entirely remote this year. Next takes place on 21st August just hours before the beta goes live for the public. You can expect much of the beta content to be shown there.

Modern Warfare 4 arrives 23rd October on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.
