Marvel Snap studio insists: “This is us making hard decisions to keep going, not a sign we’re winding down”

Marvel Snap developer Second Dinner has assured fans “we’re still here” after high-profile exits triggered fears about the game’s future.

Addressing players via its Discord community, co-founder Ben Brode admitted that at the end of the week, the studio had “said goodbye to a few members of our team yesterday, including our awesome community manager”.

Questions about the studio’s future began to circulate when former community manager, Griffin Bennett, took to X/Twitter to announce, “like so many others in this industry, it’s my time once again to share the sad news that I’ve been laid off from Second Dinner and Marvel Snap”. Designer Glenn Jones has also recently left the studio.

Later that same day, Brode confirmed the layoffs, writing: “You know how much he cared about this community, and we’re going to miss him. We know many of you will, too. These decisions were painful to make and say nothing about the quality of the people leaving.”

“For those of you concerned about Snap, we’re still here, still building, still committed to this game and to you,” Brode added (thanks, Kotaku).

The roadmap we shared in March remains the same. This is us making hard decisions to make sure we can keep going, not a sign that we’re winding down.”

Marvel Snap went offline in the US for over 24 hours last year and was pulled from app stores in the country as a result of Nuverse’s parent company being ByteDance – the Chinese owner of social media app TikTok – leading to a ban in the US.

After its triumphant return, Second Dinner announced an enormous package of in-game rewards as an apology to players, and pledged to find a new publisher “to make sure this never happens again”, which it did, teaming up with Skystone Games last year.
