“Most of these are on us” – Invincible Vs devs reveal why rage quitting was such a problem during the open beta, and how they’ll fix it

Following a successful open beta for upcoming gory fighting game Invincible Vs, the developers at Quarter Up have addressed the rage quitting problem that was plaguing the game’s recent public presence.

The full blog post, which breaks down learnings from the ranked-mode beta as well as changes coming in response to feedback, dedicates an entire section to the rage quitting problem. It kicks off by explaining why rage quitting appeared to be such a plague on the game, describing most of the reasons as “on us”.

These points include a rank point bottleneck, which means the shift in points after a win or loss weren’t updating immediately after a game. This, the developers believe, may have given the impression that leaving a game mid-match wasn’t resulting in a decrease in ranked points.

There’s also a ranked data bottleneck, which means players weren’t necessarily being matched up to others of a similar skill level. This may have resulted in frustration from the worse player, and thus, rage quits. The blog post also addressed the lack of penalties for disconnecting from games, as well as a lack of casual modes in the beta.

In terms of steps moving forward towards the game’s full release later this month, the post explains the bottlenecks for ranked points and player skill have been fixed ahead of the 1.0 launch. In addition, disconnecting from a game will result in a loss of ranked points and be marked as a loss.

Looking further into the future, habitual rage quitters or disconnecters will find themselves victim of matchmaking cooldowns preventing them from queuing up after a spree of angrily bailing from games they’re losing. This is set to come in the first major patch post-launch.

The section concludes with the following paragraphs: “If you’re reading this and were guilty of a rage quit or two during the beta…we get it. Ranked was the system we most needed to stress test, but we also know that means players who wanted to explore at their own pace (or who are new to fighting games entirely) didn’t have a good way to do that.

“Invincible VS is for everyone! We hope the availability of all single player and multiplayer modes on launch (Story, Arcade, local versus, Casual, Lobbies, Progression) will help you develop your skills and progress towards competing against players at your level in Ranked play. The next time you get caught in a match-ending move, you’ll feel confident enough to run the set or go back to the lab and come back better.”

Invincible Vs is set to release on the 30th April, 2026.
