Square Enix has officially announced its next Dissidia game in the Final Fantasy spin-off series, coming to mobile devices next year.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy was teased yesterday and then officially revealed today, with sign ups for its closed beta test now open (but only in the US and Canada).
While the trailer only hints at expected gameplay, it will feature 3 vs 3 battles with teams aiming to defeat monsters and bosses before their rivals.
There will also be some form of Bravery system to allow characters to unleash their full power, and it’s all set in modern day Tokyo featuring a wealth of stars from across the Final Fantasy series.
“A peaceful everyday life, visited by chaos,” the trailer teases. “Those who arrived to confront the chaos were called ‘Ghosts’.”
Ability illustrations will also be drawn by popular artists, and players will be able to customise their warriors with different outfits
The game is coming to iOS and Android devices next year, with recruitment available for the closed beta test running until 28th October. The test will take place from 7th – 14th November on Android only.
The trailer ends with a tease of more characters set to join the game.
Creative producer on the game (and series veteran) Tetsuya Nomura shared a message about the game on social media, celebrating the long-running spin-off series.
“Duellum is the sixth installment in the series, and as you can see from the world setting and visuals, it is another aspirational title packed with many new undertakings and ways for the staff to challenge themselves,” he said.

The last Dissidia game was Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, also released for mobile devices. However this, along with many other mobile games, was shut down in February last year.
Square Enix also has a Dragon Quest mobile game on the way, in the form of roguelite RPG Dragon Quest Smash/Grow.
