New Paranormal Activity Game Cancelled

New Paranormal Activity Game Cancelled

Paranormal Activity: Threshold, a new game from the creator of The Mortuary Assistant, has been cancelled. Brian Clarke, the solo developer behind the game, released a statement today regarding the cancellation of the horror game. Clarke revealed that he needed more time to work on the game, but Paramount (the owner of the Paranormal Activity IP) did not offer to extend development time. As a result, Clarke had two choices: release a compromised, subpar game or cancel it to avoid releasing something he wasn’t proud of. He chose the latter, and as a result, the game will no longer be released.

Clarke was a perfect fit for a Paranormal Activity game, as The Mortuary Assistant is an incredible supernatural horror game. As the title suggests, players fill the shoes of an assistant in a haunted mortuary and are tasked with embalming corpses while things go bump in the night. Clarke was heavily influenced by the Paranormal Activity films, and it shows in the final product. There’s a constant, eerie tension as you play while the threat of demonic possession looms.

Paranormal Activity: Threshold was announced in 2024 and would’ve leveraged the found footage element from the films as players would’ve had a camcorder to document a haunting. Not unlike the films, the game would’ve followed a couple who discover their new home is haunted. The game promised the ability to explore “multiple timelines” with unique variables that would change every playthrough and create different endings. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to see what exactly Clarke had in store for us.

Paranormal Activity: Threshold isn’t the first Paranormal Activity game either. In 2017, VRWERX released Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul. Although the game was initially released and conceived of as a VR game, it has since been made available as a traditional flat-screen game and is currently available on PlayStation 4 and PC.

A new Paranormal Activity film is expected to be released on May 21st, 2027. It’s possible that Paramount wanted the game out sometime between now and the release of the next film to create marketing synergy. At the very least, fans will be able to enjoy a new film in the series.
