The Pokémon Company International and Aardman have released the first teaser trailer for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, a new stop-motion series set in the Galar region.
The trailer premiered at Pokémon XP in San Francisco yesterday (28th August) alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, during a Behind the Scenes with Aardman panel. You can see it below:
The video description teases: “Join our unlikely heroes, Sirfetch’d and Pichu, in their gallant quest to protect Pokémon across Galar! While their missions might rarely go as planned, their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown. Peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.”
Pokémon’s director of original animation Phil Rynda joined Aardman’s Tom Parkinson (director), Nat McKay (creative director, IP development), and James Young (model-making creative lead) on the panel to walk fans through the show’s puppets, sets, and production process.
Disney+ was also confirmed as the series’ exclusive worldwide streaming home when it arrives in 2027, following the platform’s recent addition of Pokémon the Series: The Beginning.
Set across the wilds of Galar, Pokémon Tales follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu on what Pokémon describes as “a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region”, with new Pokémon and location reveals including Obstagoon and the Crown Tundra area, both previously seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
“Sirfetch’d has this wonderfully noble, slightly bumbling energy – determined to be the best knight in the whole of Galar,” said director Tom Parkinson. “While Pichu is the playful, curious squire, and often, actual voice of reason. They really are best friends, and we think audiences are going to fall in love watching them stumble, succeed and help Pokémon in need along the way.”
“Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes,” Rynda added.
Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis framed the deal as part of a wider Pokémon push on the platform: “Along with ‘Pokémon the Series: The Beginning,’ these series are powerful additions to Disney+.”
Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is the latest project from Bristol-based Aardman, which turns 50 this year.
ICYMI, Pokémon Pokopia’s 2.0 major update dropped earlier this month, allowing players to venture deep below the waves to meet new Poké-pals and mess around with a variety of new features.
