The Stop Killing Games movement, which recently made its case convincingly in European Parliament, has claimed some kind of responsibility for Ubisoft’s ongoing offline support of The Crew 2.
Yesterday, Ubisoft rolled out updates to The Crew 2 Hybrid Mode, which it introduced last October, which makes the game available offline as well as on. The update makes livery tweaks available offline, driver statistics available offline, and adds an innocuous-sounding “Back to login” button which saves you having to reboot the game when you want to change from online to offline mode.
The Stop Killing Games X account reacted to this update taking a portion of credit for the existence and continued support of The Crew 2’s Hybrid mode. This post features two videos of Stop Killing Games founder Ross Scott who, in the undated video says, “We inadvertently saved two games.” The other game he’s referring to is The Crew Motorfest, which is due to receive an offline mode but hasn’t yet.
“This is hearsay again but according to an insider at the company, Ubisoft announced offline modes for The Crew 2 and Motorfest because they were afraid the European Citizens Initiative would pass and this would kill some of the momentum. Ironically, I don’t think they needed to have bothered: we were already losing momentum when they announced that, because… You know why.
“But not killing games is the whole point of this and I guarantee you Ubisoft had no end of life plans for those games prior to this movement. They were absolutely slated to die.”
The “European Citizens Initiative” refers to the Stop Destroying Games petition that Stop Killing Games posted to gather signatures so its case could be heard in European Parliament. Nearly 1.3m people signed it.
Ubisoft’s The Crew 2 blog post starts by thanking fans for their support and enthusiasm for the Hybrid mode following its release in October 2025. As mentioned, these improvements include liveries being accessible offline. Liveries are cosmetic customisations which players can place on their cars, and previously were not creatable on the offline version of The Crew 2. You can now create liveries, access your full collection of liveries, and save liveries from the online library of liveries for use offline.
You can also now save your account statistics to your offline The Crew 2 account. Both vehicle and pilot statistics can be added to your offline profile, and these offline statistics will progress on your offline save.
Finally, user interface changes have been implemented which make it easier to switch over from the offline version of The Crew 2 to the online version. This comes in the form of a handy button in the game’s menu which should allow for quick and easy switching between the two modes. To tie it all in a bow, various fixes have been thrown in for good measure.
The Crew 2 first received this hybrid mode following pressure from a surging Stop Killing Games movement following the delisting of The Crew in December 2023, and closure a year later.
