Street Fighter film gets new trailer full of roundhouses and explosions, plus a spot of mournful karaoke

We are in a ripe age of video game to big (and small) screen adaptations, and now we have another look at the upcoming Street Fighter film, which stars the likes of Jason Momoa and wrestler Roman Reigns.

Now, before we get too into it, I would like to preface this article by saying I do not know a huge amount about Street Fighter. However, as Connor – who I usually defer to for these sorts of things – is out of the office today, this story has landed on my lap. So, basically, if I sound like I am not sure what is going on, it is because I don’t, so be nice.

Ok, now we have that disclaimer out of the way, we can get to the trailer itself, which I can confirm includes both streets and fighting. There is also a spot of melancholic karaoke singing from Noah Centineo’s Ken, people kicking their legs up unreasonably high (even when they are in just a towel, because of course) and bodies getting chucked through walls. It seems frenzied, silly, and honesly… I didn’t hate it. You can check it out below.

“Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury,” reads the film’s official blurb.

“But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

Street Fighter has been directed by Kitao Sakurai, and is releasing in cinemas later this year, on 16th October.

The most recent game in Capcom’s series, Street Fighter 6, was released back in June 2023 across PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. This was followed by a release on Switch 2 for the console’s launch in June.

Earlier this year, Capcom announced a patch for Street Fighter 6 which would revise some of the text passages added with the latest DLC character, Alex. This comes after players on social media mocked the New York fighter for marrying and impregnating his second cousin and step-sister, Patricia, who he knew as a baby (yes, actually).
