Kiki Wolfkill, former Halo veteran and film & TV head at Xbox, exits Microsoft after 28 years

As Xbox transitions into a new era under the leadership of new CEO Asha Sharma, big changes are happening at the Microsoft-owned publisher. Now, Kiki Wolfkill, the head of film and TV at Xbox, has exited the company.

Wolfkill made the announcement herself on LinkedIn earlier this week, confirming last Friday was her last day at the company she’d been a key part of for 28 years. Before stepping into a transmedia-oriented role, she was a Director of Art at Microsoft Game Studios from 1998 through 2007. As Halo evolved past Bungie, she took on the role of executive producer for Halo 4 at 343 Industries. Her recent positions included being the lead of Halo transmedia and entertainment (which led to the creation of the Halo TV show) and head of film/TV for the larger Xbox brand.

“There is a version of me outside of Microsoft that I’m excited to grow and evolve,” Wolfkill said in her “goodbye” post before teasing news on what comes next will be shared soon. It must be noted that, over the years, she’s also held positions at the Tribeca Film Festival and other media-oriented institutions, so chances are she won’t be leaving that space.

On top of Halo, Wolfkill helped with the development of the hugely successful Fallout series for Amazon, the Minecraft movie, and the upcoming Gears of War adaptation at Netflix. As part of its report on her departure, Windows Central also teased a Diablo show (we only had rumours of it briefly existing years ago, before a cancellation) and “more secret stuff coming down the pipeline.”

It must also be noted the long-in-development Call of Duty movie also appears to be moving along and targeting a 2028 release, so that’s another Xbox IP making the jump to screens worldwide in the near future.
