Remedy’s Control now available on iPhone and iPad

Control Resonant is coming this year, but that doesn’t mean Remedy Entertainment is done with the original Control just yet. In fact, the developer has just released an all-new version of the game for iPhone and iPad after teasing it last year.

While we haven’t seen any gameplay videos yet (expect the first of those to go up in the coming hours), Remedy confirmed Control Ultimate Edition has been reworked with the devices’ touch controls in mind, and that extends to the interface and some of its gameplay systems as well.

Though the social media posts don’t reveal much about the ambitious port’s nature, a quick look at its App Store page unveils they haven’t held back with this one. “We have implemented touch controls and made changes to the in-game UI and game mechanics, like aiming and puzzles, to provide a great experience for supported touch devices.” It sounds like an extensive effort to make this action-adventure rollercoaster ride not feel miserable to play on more limited hardware.

The biggest shocker comes right after that bit of the official description, where it’s confirmed the game “supports Ray Tracing on supported hardware.” This is what made me extremely interested in seeing how the more recent iPhone and iPad models fare, as Control remains a heavyweight triple-A game to run despite it releasing originally in 2019. It’s also selling for only $4.99 and includes all the released content of the other versions, so that’s neat.

Eurogamer’s review of Control called it “luxurious and uncanny”, with special praise directed at the game’s main setting of the Oldest House. Control Resonant, a direct sequel, will instead take the action to a warped version of Manhattan that’s been also overtaken by supernatural forces.
