Elden Ring movie set leak shows off Marika, Leyndell and more

Filming for the Elden Ring movie has begun, and we now have a first look at set photos which appear to show off Marika, Leyndell and – a clue that we will be getting some pre-game lore – the Night of the Black Knives, which took place before The Shattering.

Please be aware of Elden Ring spoilers below.

The set photos were originally shared by Shortlist, and have since been making their way around online. They show off several teasers for locations from Elden Ring, including a sign that says “Leyndell Streets” – which refers to the location of the Royal City – and a box of props labeled “Stormveil”. Stormveil Castle is a Legacy Dungeon in Elden Ring.

We also got to see some of the cast making their way on set, with someone who appears to be Elden Ring’s Numen god, Marika. In these images, the character appears to have both of her braids, which suggests the scene being filmed was also before The Shattering, which set in motion the events of the game.

In the foreground of this image of Marika, we also appear to have a Hornsent. For those unfamiliar with Elden Ring, Hornsent are a polytheistic faction which (as their name suggests) have horns on their heads. They do not technically appear in the base game, and I won’t go into spoilers as to why, but their presence on set again suggests that the film is going to be digging deeper into Elden Ring’s lore than we may have perhaps expected.

There is also an image of a helmeted soldier, the shape of which matches the armour worn by Elden Ring’s Leyndell Knights. As I have mentioned, Leyndell is the Royal City, and this is where the Night of the Black Knives happened. This event would serve as the catalyst for The Shattering.

Another image also shows some gallows, and while no character is seen near them, the beam seems to match the game’s opening cutscene when the Loathsome Dung Eater is hanged.

The Elden Ring adaptation is set to arrive in theatres on 3rd March, 2028. Earlier this week, the cast for the Elden Ring film was announced, with Alien: Romulus and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery actress Cailee Spaeny in a lead role. Other confirmed cast members include Ben Whishaw, Kit Connor, Peter Serafinowicz and Nick Offerman, to name a few.

Allegedly, the upcoming film from Alex Garland and production company A24 has a budget “well over” $100m.
