Final Fantasy Resonance is getting a 120-song original soundtrack

Earlier this year, Square Enix announced that we’ll be getting our first HD-2D Final Fantasy game in October this year, and it’s based on the now-shuttered mobile title Brave Exvius.

We’ve had a few trailers from the game since, and it’s certainly looking like it’s going to be a massive tite. Now, Square Enix has announced the game is getting a proper soundtrack treatment, with the Final Fantasy Resonance Original Soundtrack will releasing a week after the game comes out (on 28th October), with an OST that spreads over four CDs and 120 tracks.

The soundtrack features music produced by Noriyasu Agematsu, who has created an additional 33 tracks for this soundtrack to complement the 87 that were already released for both Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, and War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

There are some absolutely amazing names for some of the tracks (which you can see here), including the likes of “Leviathanomachy”, “Wickedness Afoot”, “A Bloom in the Gloom of Shadows”, “Break the Limit!”, “He Who Shoulders Umbral Darkness” and “Overcome the Menace”. If you’re curious about how the size of this OST compares to other Final Fantasy games, the digital version of Final Fantasy 10 includes 89 tracks, Final Fantasy 7 has 85, and Final Fantasy 8 has 73. So you can expect a lot of music in Resonance, then.

If you’re keen on owning a physical version of the OST, you can pre-oreder the CD here in the EU, here in North America, and here in Japan.

I’m pretty excited for Final Fantasy Resonance; the general pitch of the game from Square Enix itself is: ‘What if Final Fantasy had continued to push the limits of pixel art?’ – a question many people have been asking since the series moved to 3D for its mainline games with Final Fantasy 7 in 1997. With games like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy demonstrating Square Enix’s skill with the new-fangled HD-2D genre – and having decent success with wrangling decent single-player games out of its mobile gacha experiments – Resonance is a bit of a no-brainer for the publisher. Let’s just hope the game can stick the landing and live up to how good all the trailers have been, to date.
