LEGO Astro Bot Set Leaks, Though It Won’t Be Available as a Standalone Purchase

LEGO will soon launch an adorable Astro Bot set, though you won’t be able to pick it up as a standalone purchase.

Astro Bot (40899) is a 276-piece set that will be a Gift With Purchase (GWP) when you buy the previously-revealed LEGO PlayStation directly from the brand’s own stores or website, while stocks last.

Various leaks have pointed to the existance of this Astro Bot GWP for some time, though images of its box — and confirmation it will indeed not be able to (officially) buy on its own — have now been published by Brick Tap.

With Sackboy missing presumed recycled, Astro Bot is now Sony’s de facto PlayStation mascot — so his appearance here as an add-on for the official PlayStation set is not a huge surprise. (The PS1 set also includes a few cool Easter eggs featuring Sony series Gran Turismo and Ape Escape.) This version of Astro Bot will clock in at 20cm / 8″ in height and 12cm / 4.5″ in width.

It’s a cool-looking design, and one that PlayStation fans will likely want to include on their shelves. Not keen on spending $179.99 on a LEGO PS1 and getting this included? As with all GWP sets, expect Astro Bot to quickly become available via resale sites, albeit at inflated prices.

LEGO is yet to officially announce Astro Bot, as preorders for the LEGO PlayStation are still yet to go live — despite the set launching on October 4 (or from October 1 for LEGO Insiders). We’ll update here when preorders are available so you know to keep a look out.

As for Astro Bot himself, we’d strongly expect another entry in the Astro series to follow 2024’s beloved Astro Bot for PlayStation 5. “A fantastically inventive platformer in its own right, Astro Bot is particularly special for anyone with a place in their heart for PlayStation,” we wrote in IGN’s Astro Bot review, which returned a 9/10 score.
