After three long years of rumours, reports, leaks, a couple of official teases, we finally have confirmation that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake is real, under the guise of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. But it seems Resynced isn’t the only Assassin’s Creed remake title in development, at least if you believe the chatter from a couple of reliable leakers.

YouTuber j0nathan, who you may remember as a very well-known and usually on-point leaker of all things Ubisoft, has backed up a report from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson that the next title in Ubisoft’s remake catalogue will be the very first Assassin’s Creed title. Now, this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise if you’ve been paying attention, because back in 2024 the publisher outlined that it would be targeting multiple remakes of titles in the series. But other than the oft-rumoured Black Flag remake, we weren’t sure which other titles in the alternative historical canon would be candidates for remakes.
There is no official word about a release date of the Assassin’s Creed remake yet, nor has Ubisoft formally revealed that it’s actually real. But it’s worth noting that November 2027 will be the 20th anniversary of the game (and the series as a whole), so my money would be on a release date targeting that sort of window. That’ll put a good 16 months between Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and the potential new game, too. And, of course, we’ve supposedly got the mysterious and troubled Hexe coming at some point, too.
To me, it makes sense that Ubisoft is looking at revisiting the first title: Assassin’s Creed is the only mainline title in the series currently unplayable on modern consoles, so releasing a version of the title that will sit along the rest of the HD releases is a nice way of bringing everything together (and perhaps having it all playable via the as-yet-under-utilized Shadow Animus hub that Ubisoft promised would be a central destination for all things Assassin’s Creed.
Before that, though, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on 9th July.
