Capcom wanted mouse support in Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2, but it “confused the gameplay”

The next entry in Capcom’s Resident Evil series will be arriving in just a few months time and, while it was originally announced for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it will also be coming to Switch 2. But, will it be making the most of the Switch 2’s functions?

Well, according to Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa, the team did try to get the game working with the Switch 2’s mouse controls, but this just made things a bit more complicated than anticipated.

Kumazawa-san was asked by PressStart about challenges unique to development for the Switch 2, which the producer began by saying there weren’t any. “Looking back on Switch, there were Resident Evil games before on the Switch, so what we did, is we used the past experience of developing these games on the Switch to help develop Nintendo Switch 2,” Requiem’s producer explained.

“But also, we made a lot of versions of the games for PC as well. In fitting with PCs that have a wide variety of specs, we could also just make sure the game was optimised for the Nintendo Switch 2 too. So it wasn’t too hard, so to speak.”

OK, so it was all plain sailing… Except, when it wasn’t. “We tried really hard to implement mouse controls for Nintendo Switch 2,” Kumazawa-san continued. When we put it in, it confused the gameplay and became too complicated.”

Because of this complication and confusion, the team is instead using gyro controls instead.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on 27th February, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.

Earlier this week, Capcom assured its Resi fans the team is working to ensure Resident Evil Requiem will perform well on PC, after a multitude of technical issues this year with Monster Hunter Wilds.
