Sony has announced Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition alongside new content coming to the game.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Andrew Goldfarb, senior communications manager at developer Sucker Punch Productions, confirmed an October 1 release date for Ghost of Yōtei’s new narrative expansion, new single-player combat survival mode, and new quality of life updates as part of the Complete Edition.
The new narrative expansion is called Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara. Goldfarb said it’s split between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland. You meet Nagato, a figure from Atsu’s past who has arrived in Ezo. In the present, you explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang of loyal followers, the Vipers. In the past, you experience Atsu’s time in the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. Expect new enemies, new heavy weapons, new armor sets, new dyes, and more.
The new single-player survival mode, meanwhile, is called Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted, Goldfarb said it’s the game’s spin on a roguelike, where you accept bounties to start new runs, and taking down enemies earn you perks. Goldfarb teased that you can also unlock additional characters to play as. The trailer, above, shows Atsu with the dual katana, Oyuki with the kusarigama, and Nagato with a yari. “We love to watch the amazing combat reels that have been shared with us on social media, and can’t wait to see you all try to perfect these runs,” Goldfarb added.
Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition contents
The Complete Edition, which costs $69.99, includes Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted, the base game, as well as online co-op mode Ghost of Yōtei Legends. If you buy the Complete Edition, you can immediately start playing the main game and Legends, and Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted will arrive with a patch on October 1.
Complete Edition also includes all of the in-game content previously included in the Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as the Charm of Hokkyokusei. If you buy it by September 30, you also get an early unlock of the Sakai Armor on October 1 for Atsu to wear. This is a throwback to Jin’s family armor from the previous game, Ghost of Tsushima.
If you already own Ghost of Yōtei, you can get Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted by buying the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99.
Complete Edition includes new tracks for Watanabe Mode that will be available throughout the entire game when the mode is enabled, Sony said. There’s also new photo mode stamps, additional cosmetics for New Game+, and new Trophies for both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted.
Free for all Ghost of Yōtei owners is a new patch due out on October 1 that adds the new Beauty of Yōtei mode. This allows for a screensaver-like view of the environments of Ezo “to keep on and relax at home (and take stunning new Photo Mode captures).” Additionally, expect new quality of life features including the option to keep an armor set’s appearance while using a different set’s stats, as well as a new high contrast accessibility option.
Ghost of Yotei sold 3.3 million copies in its first month on sale, although Sony hasn’t issued an updated sales figure since. In February this year, Sony insisted Ghost of Yotei outsold predecessor Ghost of Tsushima during the same period, and made a “significant” contribution to its financial results.
