Sony and PlayStation have just announced Ghost of Yōtei: Complete Edition, a new version of 2025’s open world action game, launching with additional content that wasn’t in the first release. It launches for PS5 on 1st October, 2026.
Similarly to Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, this new version of Yōtei is a ‘definitive’ version that includes online co-op mode Legends, everything from the original’s Digital Deluxe Edition, new music in Watanabe Mode, new Photo Mode stamps, additional cosmetics (for New Game Plus), and new Trophies.
But the headline addition comes in the form of a new roguelike survival game mode, called Most Wanted. Here, you accept bounties, and dispatch enemies – each kill and contract making you more powerful and giving you more tools. You also unlock more characters to play as, each specialising in one of the game’s many weapons. Is it just me, or does this sound like the Ghost version of The Last of Us, Part 2 Remastered’s No Return mode? Which I thought was nearly flawless, by the way.
There’s also more story coming: Echoes of Sekigahara is a bonus episode that has a wholly new narrative, taking us to new locations and introducing us to new people. “Split between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland, you’ll meet Nagato, a figure from Atsu’s past who has arrived in Ezo,” says the press release. “In the present, you’ll explore a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang of loyal followers, the Vipers. In the past, you’ll experience Atsu’s time in the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. You’ll meet new enemies and find new heavy weapons, new armor sets, new dyes, and more.”
Don’t worry if you already own the game: you don’t have to buy everything again. For PS5 accounts that already have Ghost of Yōtei registered as purchased, you can nab the Complete Edition upgrade for £11.99/$14.99 as a ‘top-up’ – something we’ve seen Sony do before (which didn’t go down too well).
“Sucker Punch’s sequel offers more great swordplay and heartfelt storytelling, but would be better served as a linear action game, freed of its poor sidequests and dated open world,” said our own Chris Tapsell in his review of the PS5 exclusive. But for all the misgivings of the game, he couldn’t help but be mesmerised by the very good (and very weird) lo-fi mode it shipped with.
