Project Hail Mary Is Getting a VR Game This Fall

A new chapter from the world of Project Hail Mary is being released as a VR game this fall.

Developer Maze Theory is producing a new VR/mixed reality title known as Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, which will tell an original new story in the sci-fi world. Players will step into the shoes of Ryland Grace (who appears to be a silent protagonist this time around) and work together with Rocky to diagnose and solve problems on your ship. It’s unclear how long this game will be or how expansive it is, but it looks like a fun way for fans to get more Project Hail Mary content (and more Rocky).

The game will see actor James Ortiz reprising his role as the voice of Rocky, who expressed a lot of excitement in returning to the character for this game.

“Playing Rocky again for the game has been really special,” said Ortiz. “Fans will be able to step inside the world of Project Hail Mary, interact with Rocky using the same character model from the film, and experience a completely new part of his journey with Grace. It is as close as you can get to the cinematic experience, but this time you are inside it.”

Project Hail Mary is one of the breakout successes from Hollywood this year, proving people are hungry for well-made original films. The movie grossed $684 million at the box office and became a viral sensation on platforms like TikTok. Although there’s nothing officially in the works as far as we know, a sequel is on the table and likely in demand from Amazon. However, it falls on author Andy Weir to produce one, and it’s unclear if that will happen or what it would even look like.
