That fancy green see-through Xbox Series X – a limited edition creation for Xbox’s 25th anniversary – reportedly releases on Black Friday and costs as much as a PS5 Pro.

The information comes from French website Dealabs‘ consistently reliable leaker billbil-kun, who claims the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition – as Microsoft is calling it – releases 27th November priced €899.99 (or an estimated $899.99). At that price it’s €100 more than a standard 1TB Xbox Series X with a disc drive and, as noted, the same price as PS5 Pro in Europe.

That is “murky green”, right? How else would you describe it?Watch on YouTube

No UK equivalent pricing has been revealed, but a PS5 Pro costs £789.99 here so perhaps it’ll be similarly priced. If it is, that would make the limited edition Xbox at least £100 more than the standard disc-drive Series X, which is priced £669.99. (The disc-drive comparison is appropriate because the limited edition Xbox Series X has one.)

Why is it so expensive? Presumably because it has a translucent murky-Xbox-green case, meaning you can peer inside at its techno-innards. It also comes with a special Xbox controller which has been given the same treatment: you can see inside its body. The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition was unveiled at Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase earlier this summer. We’ve asked Xbox for comment.

Since it was revealed, much has happened. The entire Xbox division has been rocked by wide-ranging restructuring, which has left 1600 people without a job already, and will leave a further 1600 people without jobs by next summer. It’s restructuring that’s resulted in first-party studios splitting from Xbox, as well as downsized studios. All this has affected game development and, understandably, staff morale. Protests continue to be organised in response.

Microsoft also substantially raised the prices of its Xbox consoles earlier this year, boosting the cheapest Xbox Series S from £300 to £430, and the disc-drive Xbox Series X from £500 to £670. The primary reason for this is the ongoing memory and storage component shortage around the world – a scarcity created by huge AI datacenter demand for the same things.

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has already warned that the component pricing crisis will continue, and that “we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027”. This will affect pricing and availability of Xbox’s next-gen Project Helix machine, she’s said, and Microsoft is exploring “radically different business models” related to selling Xbox consoles because of it.
