Xbox version of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game delayed by over a month, less than 24 hours before launch

Less than 24 hours before its intended release date, the developers behind the Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game have announced some serious disruptions to the launch on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

For Xbox players keen to jump in later today, they’ll have to wait a while longer. According to PM Studios they have been “forced” to delay the release to the 3rd September. This is due to “unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature.” Xbox players will not have their pre-orders cancelled automatically, and will have to cancel them manually if they are unhappy with the delay.

As for Nintendo Switch players, the game will be launching today as planned. However, only the standard edition will be available. The planned deluxe edition, which you can get on PC, PlayStation, and (eventually) Xbox is out of Switch player’s hands for now.

It gets worse for Switch users, too, as cross play between other platforms as well as localisation beyond English will also not be made available at launch later today. The post reads: “We are committed to bringing these features, along with upgrading to Deluxe Edition, to players as soon as possible and will keep you updated on our timeline and progress.”

So the Avatar fighting game appears to be coming in scorching hot. As for the community reaction, Xbox users are understandably pretty heated themselves about the news.

“Are you actually kidding me, why would you announce this the day of release if you knew you wouldn’t be able to release it on Xbox till two months later,” wrote X user Lagoon884 in response to the announcement. Another X user, Alto, echoed the sentiment: “Why would they wait until the day BEFORE to say something. I literally took off work to play it on release. Now I have to wait until September??? Horrible communication.”

It’s a shame too as, for the most part, the reception to the game during its recent open beta had been positive! Now, on arguably the most important day, the sentiment has soured for some. The timing is made extra unfortunate with Marvel Tokon’s open beta set to go live tomorrow.

Here’s hoping the developers can steer the ship back on course, polish up that Switch version, and win back spurned Xbox players later this year.
