Resident Evil Requiem Cut Content Includes Weapon Merchant, Side Missions and Motorcycle Repair, Fans Say

Resident Evil fans are poring over a fresh cache of images that claim to show content cut from Resident Evil Requiem — including a weapon merchant, evidence of side missions, and more.

Requiem is known to have changed a great deal as it progressed through development — indeed, the game’s director recently said a whole early chapter was cut as the game’s story evolved. Now, images have surfaced showing more of the game’s abandoned ideas.

The images come from Japanese Resident Evil streamer umesooooo, and have been shared more widely by noted Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem, effectively rubber stamping their authenticity.

For fans, there’s much to pore over here — including a weapon upgrade screen that shows an early version of the Requiem revolver, and a shadowy figure lurking in the background that appears to be a new version of the infamous Resident Evil 4 merchant. Alas, in the final version of Requiem, players upgrade guns through a menu, with purchases made via an in-game touchscreen. That’s the impact of technology on jobs, right there.

Another image shows a list of side-missions, of the kind featured in Resident Evil 4 Remake. These look to have provided the ability to earn credits — something that kills simply provide in the final game. The list of missions includes tasks such as inspecting a warehouse (perhaps the one found early on in Raccoon City), obtaining fuses, investigating a gas station (again, likely the one in Raccoon City) and opening a BSAA container.

There’s mention here too of Leon obtaining a blood collection kit, and images that show him holding the same syringe-like device that Grace uses to collect infected blood. Rather than use it like a crafting resource, however, the suggestion here is that Leon can simply inject it (which sounds a terrible idea, but sure) for bonuses — and potentially overdose, prompting negative side effects. In the final game, only Grace can collect blood — and she certainly doesn’t stick it in herself.

Other images seem to show a version of Requiem’s in-game map with two characters visible, which some fans have suggested could date from a version of the game when both Leon and Grace would have explored more extensively together. As it is, the final game keeps them mostly separated, save for a few brief sections.

Fans have also spotted evidence of a red herb (missing in the final game), special purple bullets for the Requiem (could these have been replaced by the Hemolytic Injector?) and what looks to be a detective-like mechanic for examining a body.

Next up for Resident Evil Requiem, will be this month’s addition of a new mode, which will require you to have beaten the main game in order to play. Further off, Capcom is also working on a story expansion to the game — and who knows, some of the previously-cut gameplay mechanics may end up there.
