Dungeons & Dragons game Warlock gets a first proper trailer, showing single-player action gameplay

Dungeons & Dragons game Warlock has had a first proper trailer featured at Gamescom Opening Night Live this evening.

It featured our main character – a Warlock, naturally – making her pact, as all Warlocks must do at the beginning of a D&D campaign, to gain her powers.

What follows is very much a third-person action video game, seemingly entirely in single-player, with the D&D elements instead coming through via the world design and the nature of our Warlock’s abilities.

We see a classic ramshackle town, a dungeon, and plenty of combat. At one point the Warlock teleports out the way of an enemy monster’s attack, leaving a decoy behind. Another time she emerges, sees some distant enemies in a field, and casts a spell to make it rain, before launching a series of lighting attacks seemingly with bonus effects thanks to that inclement weather.

Lots more combat follows – it’s flashy and fluid, but also very much one of those vertical slices. Some nice references to D&D spells and plenty of glitz, but low-to-no detail so far. I expect this one to evolve a bit as we get closer to launch.

Speaking of, it’s out in 2027, with that window still to be narrowed down. It’s being developed by Wizards of the Coast’s in-house studio Invoke, with Dragon Age: Veilguard’s Corinne Busch at the helm. We look forward to seeing more!
