IO Interactive’s James Bond game 007 First Light sells 2.7 million copies in its first week, as dev reiterates free Year One content

007 First Light is already racking up some pretty impressive sales figures for IO Interactive. Today, in a presentation given to the press after the Summer Game Fest 2026 showcase, IO studio director Hakan Abrak told Eurogamer that the game sold 2.7 million copies in its first week on sale – and is now ‘closer to 3 million copies sold’.

Our own Chris Tapsell is on the ground out in the States, where Abrak shared these figures as part of a press presentation following the announcement of a few IO Interactive beats at tonight’s showcase. Between a whole new mission taking players back to Aleph in 007 First Light, and a brand new Elusive Target (in the form of Wiz Khalifa) in Hitman World of Assassination, IO Interactive appears to be doing something of a victory lap in light of its recent successes.

Abrak also confirmed a few other bytes of information during the presser that players may find interesting: wine bottles are the most common thrown item so far, representing 36 percent of all thrown projectiles. There have been 34 million missions started, and 30 percent of those have been completed sucessfully (this is a lower number than I would have expected, personally). Players have used the social conditioning skill ‘bluff’ over 10 million times, suggesting that more often than not, players have run into unexpected guard trouble in their attempts at stealth.

Abrak also reiterates that New Game+ is incoming, and will be added to the game at a future date. Additionally, most of the Year One content for the game will be added for free. That is to say: if you own the game now, or bought it at launch, you will be able to try out these new missions or experiences without the need for a DLC pass, or something similar. Good.

Of course, for anyone that’s been watching, 007 First Light has been a success from the off. The Hitman developer’s most recent title passed an impressive 1.5m sales milestone within 24 hours of release. To keep the momentum going, we know that IO Interactive has plans to keep updating 007 First Light post-launch, and the first of those plans was revealed tonight: in the upcoming DLC, players will travel to Aleph to aid Bawma (played by Lenny Kravitz) fulfil a new mission so far un-hinted at in the main narrative. I imagine it has something to do with Bawma’s sister… but I won’t say anything else here.
