Preorders Are Live For Magic’s New Foundations Commander Precons

Magic: The Gathering already promised a whole host of sets from Marvel to Star Trek in 2026, but fresh from MagicCon Las Vegas, we now know we’re getting a fresh batch of Commander precons for Foundations.

New to Magic or need a refresher? Foundations debuted in 2024, offering a set that would be legal in Standard rotation for longer than other sets, but with Commander being the game’s most popular format, it’s going to make its presence felt there in October, too.

Here’s all you need to know about the mono-color Commander precons, and where to buy them.

These $30 Commander Decks Will Be Popular

We don’t yet know what cards will be included in each of the five Commander decks from this Foundations set, but we do know each will be priced at a $29.99 MSRP. That’s a sharp drop from newer precons and should help newcomers check out the format.

Will they hold up to scrutiny or disrupt the power balance of a table of established players? It’s unlikely, but with strong tribal synergies, they may just be a fantastic starting point, especially since they’re mono-colored. That’s not all that common in recent years.

Green gets the aptly-named Tramplesaurus Rex deck, which is all about big creatures, while Red is, as you’d expect, all about aggression and filled with dragons in Reign of Dragons.

Blue players get the artifact and Thopter-focused Keen Engineering precon, White gets Calling All Angels, while Wretched Ranks will have those playing in Black raising the dead in no time.

These decks are all $29.99, which is great, but if they’re as popular as I suspect they might be, that may not stay the case for long. The 2021 Starter Decks ended up priced all over the place, with Draconic Destruction being a real outlier (it still is in the UK).

If you’re interested in picking up all five, there’s a bundle for $149.95, too. Honestly, at this price, I may grab a couple to teach friends how to play without leaning into Secrets of Strixhaven’s deep list of mechanics.
